Subscribe? Good to know!
For minors starting in September, after the registration period in March, a draw takes place in April if there are at that time more subscribers than available places.

For minors starting in February, after the registration period in October, a draw takes place in November if there are at that time more subscribers than available places.

For the minors with places still available applies until the closing of the subscription period: Once a minor is full, it is closed!

In addition, if the number of subscribers after four weeks is below the norm; this minor may possibly be withdrawn. So if you are interested, sign up immediately!

Subscribe in time!

Note:
For HAN students it means that, in case of cancellation of the first choice AFTER the period of decision (this takes a full month) they may re-subscribe for the still available minors.

Even then: Once a minor is full, it is closed!

A good overview of the HAN minors can be found in the minors app! The app is accessible via: http://www.minoren-han.nl/

Transferminor Engineering Systems (TMES) at HAN University of Applied Sciences: a bridge from Bachelor to Master Engineering Systems (MES) for students within the technical domain.

Do you want to continue your study after completing your technical bachelor and obtain a masters degree (MSc) in Engineering? The transferminor TMES prepares you for the Master Engineering Systems (MES) at HAN University. You will improve your skills in mathematics and relevant topics of physics, learn to use simulation software and apply that knowledge on modelling and controlling engineering systems. Besides theory and assignments you will perform a challenging project, where you also will develop your scientific and research skills. Current topics like sustainable energy and smart systems will be covered in the project.

The transfer minor TMES consists of 50% theory and 50% application. It offers students of all engineering studies a technical deepening and extension of engineering knowledge.

That leads eventually to a good connection to the master course MES.

The following subjects will be covered in the transfer minor

  • Mathematics (i.e. complex numbers, differential equations, La place transforms, linear algebra, stastistics),
  • Applied Physics (i.e. mechanics, dynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, electricity, magnetism),
  • Introduction Modelling,
  • Practice Modelling and Simulation (Matlab, Simulink),
  • Feedback Control,
  • Research and Scientific skills
  • Project work related to Modelling and Control
  • Technical support meetings

Block exchange course

This is a block minor. It is offered once a year as a block in the 2nd semester.

This is a specialisation exchange course

This means it enables you to further deepen your skills and knowledge within your own profession (professional profile).

This is a continuation exchange course

You are interested in conducting more research and are preparing to continue your studies at a university (or to enrol in a Masters degree course at a University of Applied Sciences).

Learning outcomes

  • Using advanced mathematics in technical context
  • Analysing physical systems in several domains (mechanical, electrical, thermal, hydraulical)
  • Applying physical laws and relationships in modelling technical systems
  • Applying basics of control on technical systems
  • Modelling and simulation of technical systems in a structured way using Matlab, Simulink

Project work

  • Predicting the behaviour of an engineering system with use of modelling
  • Validating the behaviour with literature and/or practical implementation
  • Conducting research and show scientific reporting and presentation skills

Competences

According to profile of HBO domain Engineering

  • C1. Analysis
  • C2. Design
  • C3. Realisation
  • C4. Control
  • C5. Management
  • C6. Advice
  • C7. Research
  • C8. Professionalisation

Admission requirements

Students who have their propaedeutic certificate and at least 120 EC points in a technical Bachelor program, or students with an (international) comparable program. You also should have a sufficient understanding of the English language (spoken and written).

After application there will be a short meeting to discuss your learning goals and challenges.

For whom?

The minor is open to students from various engineering bachelor programmes (like AU, WTB, EL, ESE, BK, CT, IPO, TBK, TI  or equivalent), The goal of the minor is to provide a bridge from bachelor to the Master Engineering Systems (MES). You will receive an admission advice after an intake in which your motivation and background is discussed.

Nice to know

  • Blend of different learning methods
  • Lecturers with different cultural background and experience in the MES
  • Insight in technical scientific research is given
  • Exemptions for some courses in the Master program Engineering Systems (IM, AP, PMS, FC)
  • Smooth start within the master program

Working methods

  • Project work
  • Practical lessons in simulation and project management
  • Physical theoretical lessons
  • Technical support meetings

Assessment

  • 6.0 EC mathematics
  • 9.0 EC  Applied theoretical courses
  • 5.0 EC Practice Modelling and Simulation
  • 10  EC Project work (group): Project Plan/Project Documentation/ Presentation and defense with peer review

Schedule
