- You will be invited for an interview
- For minors starting in September, after the registration period in March, a draw takes place in April if there are at that time more subscribers than available places.
- For minors starting in February, after the registration period in October, a draw takes place in November if there are at that time more subscribers than available places.

For the minors with places still available applies until the closing of the subscription period: Once a minor is full, it is closed!

In addition, if the number of subscribers after four weeks is below the norm; this minor may possibly be withdrawn. So if you are interested, sign up immediately!

Subscribe in time!

Note:
For HAN students it means that, in case of cancellation of the first choice AFTER the period of decision (this takes a full month) they may re-subscribe for the still available minors.

Even then: Once a minor is full, it is closed!

A good overview of the HAN minors can be found in the minors app! The app is accessible via: http://www.minoren-han.nl/

In the HAN Biotechnology exchange course students work on an actual practical problem to get acquainted with all three sections (molecular biology, upstream processing, and downstream processing) of a biotechnology company.

Biotechnology is a profession where lab technicians can be of great value. To prepare the student for this field, the HAN exchange course in Biotechnology is offered. A biotechnology company consists of several sections: molecular biology, upstream processing, and downstream processing. The purpose of the course is that the student gets acquainted with these sections through solving a practical problem. Students will do a fermentation practical, using a bioreactor, to produce their biomolecule and downstream processing practical to purify and characterize their molecule. Ultimately, the student will be skilled and able to be employed in all sections of a biotechnology company. In the framework of Biodiscovery the emphasis in this course, and in biotechnology in general, is on the production of biomolecules.

Topics

  • Molecular Biology
  • Crispr-Cas
  • Expression hosts (organisms), expression systems (vectors), and transforming of organisms.
  • Upstream processing: fermentation technology and process optimization, designing media, and the design of experiments.
  • Downstream processing: biochemical properties of proteins and metabolites
  • Purification techniques
  • Analytical chemistry

After completing this course, you will be able to perform experiments and evaluate the effectiveness and benefit of basic scientific research in the field of biotechnology.
