Subscribe? Good to know!

For popular minors a draw takes place 3 to 4 weeks after the opening, if there are at that time more subscribers than available places. For the minors with places still available applies until the closing of the subscription period: Once a minor is full, it is closed!

In addition, if the number of subscribers after three weeks is below the norm; this minor may possibly be withdrawn. So if you are interested, sign up immediately!

Note: For HAN students it means that, in case of cancellation of the first choice AFTER the period of decision (this takes about three weeks) they may re-subscribe for the still available minors.

Even then: Once a minor is full, it is closed!

The way we work as a health professional differs among cultures. For example in some countries the doctor decides about the treatment, in other countries the health professional decides. The way clients (and their opinions) are involved in setting the treatment goals differs. In this course we work and teach in and international setting/classroom. This course is offered by  the HAN  University of Applied Sciences in Nijmegen.

This is a course which enables you to develop your professional competences in a broader context. At the same time it is a specialization course: it enables you to deepen your skills and knowledge within your own professional profile.

The subjects addressed in the programme will be:
- part A: food and culture around the globe (7,5 ects)

- part B: the international health professional/professional identity (the way they work) (7,5 ects)
- part C: trending health topics in social media (7,5 ects)

- part D: the health professional as a global citizen (7,5 ects)

 

Course
This exchange course is offered once a year in the second (spring) semester. The course contains 4 separate units of 7,5 ects. It is possible to go abroad in this course.

 

 

The learning outcomes listed below will help you decide whether this exchange course matches your personal goals.

Part A

  • Students study knows models for cultural or intercultural communication and can apply these in a case about health
  • Students learn about different food cultures and can describe different elements of food culture

Part B

  • The student can analyze guidelines used in different countries
  • The student can explain the best practice for the international health professional
  • The student develops a one page profile about the professional identity

Part C

  • The student can use qualitative interviews to learn about different perspectives regarding a health related trending topic on social media
  • The student use a digital tool for presenting their findings 

Part D

  • The student presents and underpins a sustainable innovative product
  • The student learns about global citizenship and can apply this in his /her professional work

Competences

  • Working with clients; health process and professional reasoning in international perspective
  • Working with international students
  • Research and development

An exchange course will be of most benefit to you if it complements your study and/or your professional profile, is at an appropriate level and does not overlap with your major.

Admission requirements 

  • English (listening and reading B2, writing and speaking B1)
  • The student knows the basics of doing applied research interviews

For whom?

Students of health related programmes: nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, oral health, speech therapy

Assessment
During this exchange course students produce the following products:

Part A: Video report about food cultures. Personal reflection on intercultural communication

Part B: A booklet with best practices (group product); 1 page profile about your professional identity

Part C: A digital tool / presentation about a trending health topic

Part D: A sustainable and innovative product. A personal reflection on your intercultural skills

Schedule

All parts of this exchange course takes place at the HAN campus. Dutch students can choose to go abroad in part B, C and D. We discuss the possibilities with students before the start of the course.

Students are expected to be available from Monday to Friday, so cannot have a job or take other courses from Monday to Friday (8.45-17.30).
